Thanks Jonathan, I think that helped get me closer.
I removed the Request.so (don't know where it came from if it shouldn't have been there), now I get " Can't locate loadable object for module APR::Request" which is coming from "use APR::Request ();" in my startup.pl
 
Am i just missing something stupid? APR::Request should be there by way of installing libapreq2, shouldn't it?
