About PHP configuration

Hi,

      I am new to PHP..am tryin to configure PHP and am havin few problems.I have setup the http.conf and php.ini with the coresponding entries and when I

call http://localhost/  it works.But I get "page not found" when I try to run http://localhost/phpinfo.php with these line in it <?phpinfo()?>.

Can anyone help??
