Well, after some work I got it working without the Link.pm actually.
The problem was stupid -- a dns issue.  I was using direct ip to get to
the first page and then it would try to use the url in the references.
Stupid stupid mistake.  And of course, the perms issue on the socket.
Fixed for now.
