[ic] Shipping US to Canada with 5.2 using UPS ground

With out me learning the ups-query function and/or shipping.asc, is 
there a simple way to ship to Canada with UPS ground in 5.2 ?
By default, US->Canada seems to use XDM (UPS Exrepss Worldwide Plus) 
which is very expensive.  I added GNDCOM to the shipmodes
field of the country table for CA, and that didn't seem to work. 
Again, thank you in advance, I did search the mailing lists, but only 
found complicated solutions,
