[ic] Options or Accessories and Display

I need a way to create an option that can be set on the fly.  It can be
hidden as the user does not set it, but it needs to show up in the cart.
I can use the accessory tag and create it, but it does not show up in the
cart nor does it remain set if I look at the product again from the cart.


Sorry for my ignorance, but I am unable to find the information using 
google or the older mailing lists.

Can someone help me or point me in the right direction?
