Customers would call on the phone "I specified UPS Ground and your system changed it to Next Day Air what are you trying to do?" We just did the online store for the Presidential Inauguration, meaning a -whole- lot of people who don't buy a lot of stuff online, and had several dozen complaints We had to hold a demo session with the order fulfillment people to prove that the system wasn't "mysteriously changing" shipping to Next Day Air all by itself. Don't know of a fix - other than make it an input field like you say - operator headspace errors are sometimes the toughest to allow for.
