[ic] Updating a catalog's database

I want to update quantity in the inventory table from a Perl program that 
checks inventory on my wholesaler's web site.

Will updating a table from outside interchange while it's running cause any 
problems?

I'm also planning to use a trigger to send a confirmation email when people 
sign up for my mailing lists.
