[ic] Internal server error on switching to secure server

Hello everyone,

I've got a production site running 4.9.7 and have had several people say
that when they go to our basket or checkout pages (or any secure page)
they get an internal server error.  The domain is
http://www.entermagic.com and the SSL certificate is for the same.  I'm
using Apache 1.3.27, RH 7.3.

I just restarted IC and Apache and everything works like a charm.  But,
after 24 hours (or even less, I had this problem yesterday too) the
secure server "isn't responsive".  By saying it that way, I'm not
exactly sure what's going on.  Sure you can request pages from the
server, but it gives the user an "Internal Server Error" but that does
not show up in either the access_log or the error_log for apache.

All that the global error.log reports is:

I've had it running in rpc mode.  Should I keep it there?
