The ./configure script would always fail it's tests for creating UNIX and INET mode sockets. I switched back to Red Hat 8 (which has threading enabled in perl) and all is well. Before this system goes live I'll compile my own perl without treading support. But I don't believe this is the solution to Bob's problems.
