[ic] Affiliate Tracking

I am working on a new interchange store, and the owners want to know if
there is a way that I can track orders over time for affiliate
customers. For example - if a customer goes into our store via an
affiliate link and places an order, that order is credited towards the
affiliate. What we would like to see if that if the customer returns to
the store and does not go through the affiliate link, that his order is
still credited to the affiliate. Is there a way to give credit to
affiliates in this manner? Such as to attach an affiliate ID to a
customer directly and not a specific order?
