[ic] relating parts to products

Hi,

I'm not quite sure how to go about this. I need to create a catalogue 
that consists of a list of products, as well as a number of parts and 
accessories.

Each part may link to product type, product sku or a series of products, 
all within a brand.

How do I set up this kind of relationship? Interestingly, it seems in IC 
product information gets repeated in columns, rather than stored in a 
separate table. Is this for performance reasons?

I'm thinking I'll need two tables for this, which won't be related to 
one another. Information needed in both tables, like brand, product type 
& subtype, model number will simply be input twice.

Does this make sense?
