This page describes a technique for smart asset catching.
In summary, by combining automatically generated file names with
URL writing, you get a nice effect:
- assets are declared as being cached forever, minimizing load
- when the asset changes, so the does the filename, forcing a new
copy to be fetched.
The result, it seems, is that minimal HTTP requests for assets are made.
An implementation is provided as a Rails plugin, but the concept could
be ported to other frameworks....
