Yeah I remember that.
and nothing came out of it. Apress approached me a while ago and got me kickstarted on developing a book, but I was way too lazy to write a book. ;)Anyway, I do like the book/physical product, but I would recommend NOT involving a publisher. There are tradeoffs (no money vs. no pressure), but in my opinion, the no pressure wins out, given my experiences. Plus we could setup a kwiki to facilitate collaboration (I have a few chapters from my book project) and then ... the kicker ... once we have our product, we can upload it to lulu.com and they can handle the publishing bits. And if any money gets made, perhaps it could go to TPF... just one idea. - Jason [1]: http://www.mail-archive.com/suppressed/msg00631.html http://www.mail-archive.com/suppressed/msg01362.html
The main benefit of a publisher (apart from an advance :-) is
distribution. Although e.g. Amazon helps, to meet Owains goal, I think
we need to be in every main street bookstore and self-published or
small-press books have a hard time of it.
But that's in the future. Let's first see if it can be written. I had
the same problem as you when it actually came to sitting and writing :-)
