haha... I must have missed that one. I think I can exonerate you two
though, cause the requests are still coming in :) I am not worried
about it from my end, cause my server can handle it. But I don't want
a mistake of mine to unwittingly slow down or hamper someone else's
computer (just hit 30,000 requests).
I don't like giving out information like IP addresses publically, but
I'll say that the unfortunate soul is running a Gecko based browser (I
guess I can't blame this on my lack of testing with IE ;), and has a
.de TLD so I guess that means Germany. Anyway, that is all I'll say.
I'm sure this person will eventually close their browser window :)
If anyone is interested in playing with this stuff, here is what is
needed to fix the problem. The XML file that is downloaded every
couple of seconds contains a flag called FINISHED that is 0 by
default. Once that switches to 1, the upload is completed, and the
XML will never change again, so the reloading should stop. Normally,
once the upload is complete, the new page will be returned to the
browser, and the JavaScript will automatically stop running, as a new
page has been loaded. But I guess in this case it didn't happen that
way.
So in the JavaScript, a check needs to be added that looks into the
XML file for the status if the FINISHED flag and acts accordingly. I
have placed a tarball of the demonstration online if anyone wants to
peek. This is by no means a usable module in itself, as it was just a
demonstration of the capabilities of AJAX and the upload hook support
in CGI.pm. But you are welcome to hack on it if you like.
