Re: [cgiapp] E-commerce frameworks - DMart, OSCommerce

Interesting thread ... I apologize for the delay in my joining it!

I have made some progress on the DMart Perl Commerce Framework, or DMart PCF.

I am satisfied with the configuration module, the display module, the state manager (for uniform getting / setting of cookies, form variables, session variables, program runtime variables, and configuration variables), and the login manager. Ironically, while a design is in place, I have not yet implemented / integrated the commerce stuff (cart / credit card auth handlers / tax calculator)! Still, I am very close and I am looking for the time and opportunity to finish these pieces. I anticipate that they are about 4 weeks of full time development away.

You can view a demo page at http://dmdemo.distens.com, but don't expect a fully polished demo. Its really more of a testing environment. What you will be looking at is the display module being able to integrate variable data at any template level. Thus the "main" page and / or "modules" can display error messages or other variable data without excessive work by the programmer. The core templates support "context messages" (the green boxes) and "error messages" the red boxes for communicating with the user. Of course, custom templates are unlimited in what they can display, but this is just some "built-in" capability.

Hi Spencer,

Thanks for your take on Interchange. It confirms the general feeling
that I've had about Interchange being big and complex. I hope that Bill
will chime in soon about his DMart framework.

Cheers,
William
