Re: [cgiapp] E-commerce frameworks - DMart, OSCommerce

Hello Jeff,
Ah, I see. I used to work for a web development company in a similar situation. For that situation, it is important to clearly spell out who owns what, and under what terms code may or may not be given out. I don't think this is unique at all to using GPL software, though. As I see it, it all depends on your contract with your clients. I don't see any reason why you couldn't have a clause in your contract that allows for releasing source code in certain circumstances but in all other cases retains code developed for your own company's purposes. This would not violate the GPL as far as I know. Any other developers in this situation want to comment? Mark Stosberg?
This is off topic from CGI::App now, sorry about that. :-)

See, I think you might be in a different situation that us.
We are a development company , that get's contracted by clients to do
work for them. Meaning we may setup 3 or 4 ec systems a month... it's
always on our servers.
Where are you work for a company that has 1 instance of their own
softare for their own shoppping cart.

I'm understanding what you are saying, but my boss is telling me that
he has gotten legal advice on the licese, and it was his understanding
that he would have to share any change he did with it with the clients
that contracted us.

Jeff.
