It sounds like you are trying to launch an application on the user's
computer through the web browser. This is very possible using
JavaScript, but it is a very insecure thing to do.
I would strongly recommend not doing this directly. Instead, educate
your users as to how to do it themselves.
However, you might be trying to launch a program on your server that
will run on the user's computer via the web browser. I truly hope you
realize why this would be a bad idea.
