[cgiapp] [OT] username:suppressed problem

Hey guys,

I know this post is a little off topic, but recently Microsoft released a
patch that prevented IE from resolving URLS that looked like
http://username:suppressed (basically anything that has an @
symbol before the domain name will get ignored -> so passing arguments like
suppressed will still work ok)

Anyways, this blows a hole in something I was working on.

Basically, what I'm looking for is a perl module that lets me auto
authenticate a user with username:password, so instead of using
http://userename:suppressed I could use
http://www.domain.com/auth.cgi?rm=start&u=username&p=pass, which would store
the apache username & password in the C::A module, some what like a cookie,
then I could redirect the browser to the correct URL and i wouldn't get the
pesky apache u/p popup window. The emphasis here is on ease of user
experience.

A little background on the concept incase my above description isn't going
to get me anywhere, maybe someone could help out with the concept. I'm
trying to get an ftp://www.domain.com session working inside of an iframe in
explorer. Basically once people are logged into my app, we'd like an easy,
visual way for them to drag and drop files onto the server (if possible ..
this idea has other applications to, if we could just get past the u/p
authentication problem)

thanks for reading my ramble & ot post.
