The user already has a page loaded, you may simply want to fill a select list that is currently empty.
First of all I appologize to the list that this is going off topic, and I am willing to take this off list if requested. Secondly a disclaimer -- I haven't yet had a close look at how OpenThought works and what it is capable of. It definately looks very interesting, and when I find some time I plan to read up on it some more.
However, a thought comes to mind immediately. Are you not partially re-inventing XML and XSLT? It serves a similar purpose by only sending the design of the page once (the XSLT stylesheet) and only sending XML data on subsequent requests. I have only worked with this once when I did some work on Apache::UploadMeter, so I am not and expert in XSLT and XML. It is supported in all the major browsers (although I have only used it in Mozilla and IE).
I'm sure there are several key differences, but could you highlight the overlaps between these two technologies, and what makes OpenThought different/better?
Cheers,
Cees
