After taking a look at CGI::XMLApplication (of which I knew nothing 
before, thanks for the link)
it seems that the two modules provide completely different interfaces.

CGI::Application::XML is a subclass of CGI::Application and uses 
runmodes to control what is going on.

CGI::XMLApplication is driven by callbacks generated by the names of 
CGI parameters.

So CGI::Application::XML is probably useful for CGI::App people doing 
XML stuff,
who do not want to use the programming model of CGI::XMLApplication.
