That's how it's explained in the documentation, it just doesn't work for
us.
I have

%autoconn n2 n2.example.com

in the bb-display.cfg. n2 resolves from bb server and my LAN to the uxmon
machine, the second resolves from everywhere. None appears, the n2.conn
stays purple and there's no n2.example.com.conn appearing new.

I tried this only on my old server which doesn't run the latest bigsister
code. Since when should it be working (and how do I check version?)?

Of course, not.
