Yeap, SF is scanning, that's probably the reason why there isn't more spam :-( It doesn't seem we can do much about it and as far as I can see I get about the same amount of spam on other lists. The two actual measures that would kill spam would (in my eyes) also kill the list: turn it into a moderated list, only allow posts from registered senders.
