SNMP on Windows is the way to go. We are migrating all of our servers that are monitored by BigSister to it. In addition to the other modules Dell publishes all of their MIBS and it is start3ling what you can gather using it. To install SNMP on windows you just go to the control panel -> add/remove programs -> Windows Components -> Management and Monitoring tools then check Simple Network Management Protocol -> Click OK and then next and it installs. Pretty easy and straight forward. You configure it in the services control panel to the strings you want to use. You may be able to script the install so it would be an automated deployment. -----Original Message----- From: suppressed [mailto:suppressed On Behalf Of Niels Baggesen Sent: Friday, January 05, 2007 3:08 AM To: Ryan Stille Cc: suppressed Subject: Re: [Bigsister-general] Monitoring windows servers - helpwith uxmon-net On Thu, Jan 04, 2007 at 06:32:00PM -0600, Ryan Stille wrote: > I started going down the route of using SNMP, as some have suggested. > I ran snmpwalk against the server, and as I thought, there's no agent > running there. SNMP is a standard component on Windows, so it is not much of a problem to install it, enable the service, and configure a community and a monitoring host. Then you can put this in uxmon-net on your server: DEFAULT community=public frequency=5 perf=5 ALL DESCR features=remote device=computer hzud02 hzud02 disk network cpu memory ping and you are done. If you have a HP (Compaq) or Dell you can add their management packages and also monitor their raidcontrollers, power, temperature etc: DESCR features=remote, compaq device=computer trier trier disk network cpu memory ping cpqida idadisk logdisk trier overall temp power DESCR features=remote, dell device=computer vm03 vm03 disk network cpu memory ping temp fan power vm03 diskarray virtualdisk /Niels -- Niels Baggesen - @home - Århus - Denmark - suppressed The purpose of computing is insight, not numbers --- R W Hamming ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
