Sure, it'll do what you want, and should perhaps be documented as an option for others (along with the other options sent previously), but be aware that that's a *global* change. As a result many other applications/systems/tools may behave differently than you're otherwise expecting, particularly if you have anything other than standard characters.
Personally, I always try and stay clear of global changes unless there really is no other option. Override them as otherwise suggested by others in the startup/shutdown scripts for the application (/etc/ init.d/bigsister ?), or the user (perhaps set it in ~bigsis/.profile?), in this case Big Sister, rather than something wider.
