Just a word of caution, as you may be potentially throwing the baby  
out with the bath water.

Sure, it'll do what you want, and should perhaps be documented as an  
option for others (along with the other options sent previously), but  
be aware that that's a *global* change. As a result many other  
applications/systems/tools may behave differently than you're  
otherwise expecting, particularly if you have anything other than  
standard characters.

Personally, I always try and stay clear of global changes unless  
there really is no other option. Override them as otherwise suggested  
by others in the startup/shutdown scripts for the application (/etc/ 
init.d/bigsister ?), or the user (perhaps set it in  
~bigsis/.profile?), in this case Big Sister, rather than something  
wider.
