Hi,I am new to bigsister and having trouble with my ntp service always being red. I am running Debian Sarge and have modified the script as described on this list to remove the -r and -t options however it still doesn't work.
I think this is because my ntptrace command is timing out: # ntptrace localhost localhost: stratum 3, offset 0.003045, synch distance 0.240213 213.210.55.91: timed out, nothing received ***Request timed out but doing ntpdate on localhost or the stratum 2 server both work : # ntpdate -q localhost server 127.0.0.1, stratum 3, offset 0.000003, delay 0.0256513 Nov 01:00:32 ntpdate[25007]: adjust time server 127.0.0.1 offset 0.000003 sec
# ntpdate -q 213.210.55.91 server 213.210.55.91, stratum 2, offset -0.005905, delay 0.1187113 Nov 01:00:47 ntpdate[25008]: adjust time server 213.210.55.91 offset -0.005905 sec
Running tcpdump seems to indicate that ntpdate uses NTPV4 protocol wheras ntptrace uses NTPV2 - could this be problem?
So my questions : 1) Does anyone know what's going on here?2) How can I use the ntpdate based check rather than the ntptrace one (both the newstyle and the oldstyle checks are called ntp)?
