If you search the list archives, you will see that there are a number of
issues with 0.99b on Solaris. (I don't know about 0.99c.)

See in particular point 4, which appears to me to be what you are
seeing, i.e. som of the checks being performed twice.
Please note the comment by another user, suggesting that it may be a
Perl issue. Upgrading Perl was not an option for me, but it may be for
you.
