Re: [Bigsister-general] what is the status of bigsister?

Just my "two cents". It's more of an encouragement than anything else.

I have a hard time understanding the code in BigSister. There's not a lot
of doc in the code and I haven't seen much external documentation such as
writing one's own tests. If I could write PERL code even to save my life,
I'd help w/ BigSister because I use it to monitor approx. 400 hosts. I
must concur that I like BigSister much more than BigBrother. It's too bad
that my programming abilities are lousy to say the least. Sadly, I don't
foresee me improving too much either -- programming isn't one of my
God-given abilities.

Nonetheless, I've been able to weasel 0.98c8 for well over a year without
too many headaches. I've got it rigged up on Debian Linux, Solaris, and
OpenBSD (barely). I've got some BigBrother clients feeding it. I've got a
it rigged to send SMS pages. My personal contributions is a very short
external PERL script that cleans up the pages and trims them back to fit
cleanly into the 150 characters or so allowed by most SMS cell phones. I
used qpage to dial the modem to the various SMS carriers. If anybody wants
a copy of the paging script, please just ask.

best regards,
Jim
