RE: [Bigsister-general] uxmon example to monitor a w2k3 machine

v0.99b2.NTpre.zip is far superior - it also offers an additional test for monitoring services. Use the following syntax:

localhost service="Big Sister Agent" service

This is the uxmon-net for a w2k3 machine with Bigsister 0.97.

================================================
# Set the default SNMP community to "public", the
# default frequency is 1/5min anyway
DEFAULT                community=public frequency=5 ALL

# Set the default version and protocol for rpc checks to "1" and "udp"
DEFAULT                version=1 proto=udp rpc

localhost        load memory \
                fs=C:(6%-10%) diskfree \
                eventlog cpuload network \
                  procs="MSSQLSERVER"(1-1),"Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)"(1-1) procs

# EDIT THIS, replace localhost by the name of your Big Sister server
bigsis_server.localdomain        bsdisplay
================================================

Hints:
- This configuration checks cpuload and disk space without problems.
- Also checks memory but I can´t find sense to the value 'Avaliable mem'.
- Checks eventlog in an easy way: warning messages is red.
- The network check only shows if the interface is OK or not (not info about statistics).
- And finally the procs check take account of services started, but you must put the name like listed in the command "net start". My uxmon checks for MS SQL Server snd SMTP processes.
- I have bigsister 0.97 because is a production machine and I prefered not to install Perl till it has been well probed on a w2k3 test machine
- This version of bigsister leave some warnings about perl (it is precompiled for windows) on the application's event log, but don´t be afraid about that, this machine have bigsister installed several months without problems.

Hello all,

Is there someone who can provide me with an uxmon example to monitor a
w2k3 machine?
We have some problem monitoring services. Maybe someone has an example
we can use?

regards,

Maarten
