Thanks for this hint ... unfortunately, RedHat kept packaging broken Perl configurations for a while. So, AS 3 is one more of them. Basically, Perl 5.8.0 is always a little bit suspicious - it's broken when it comes to UTF-8 support and RedHat switched to UTF-8 a while back. I'm glad you were able to solve this issue.
