This shouldn't say ok. now I do have a entry in the hosts file for the server its on, but thats standard stuff, everybox should have that so my question is, if its timing out, why is it not sending an alarm? Thanks

my guess is that the client can't resolv the name of the big sister server. make sure you can reach it when you killed the bind daemon. On Mon, 20 Sep 2004 01:48:09 -0700 "Douglas Wheet" <suppressed> wrote:Greetings, my previous message I asked for help on the bb_event_configuratorfile. I've done some work on that but stuff still seems not to work.I couldn't figure out the syntax for *.cpu to send a message to an address, and then if it continues pass 60 min to send another email to a differn't address. Also I have a problem with dns. I'm running two agents on two differn't servers that run bind9. (I only have the address of the box in theresolv.conf so it uses itself as resolver) when I kill bind9 to test to seeif it will alarm, it doesn't, the whole box goes purple including dns. Below is what my configurations are. If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it.I know the *.cpu isn't setup right but I can't figure out the syntax, I wasalso thinking about adding a *.conn below *.cpu with the same string asflorida(for example) and remove check=$host... but lets take it one step at a time. The dns servers are located on florida and sanjose. the rest of theservers are not monitoring dns, and both server agents are identical. ****bb_event_generator.cfg**** florida.* prio=100 down=red up=green check="$host.conn" msgmax=60 mail=alarm sanjose.* prio=100 down=red up=green check="$host.conn" msgmax=60 mail=alarm florida1.* prio=100 down=red up=green check="$host.conn" msgmax=60 mail=alarm sanjose1.* prio=100 down=red up=green check="$host.conn" msgmax=60 mail=alarm monitor.* prio=100 down=red up=green check="$host.conn" msgmax=60 mail=alarmdevel.* prio=100 down=red up=green check="$host.conn" msgmax=60 mail=web1*.cpu prio=100 down=red up=green delay=10 mail=cpu norepeat=60 ****uxmon-net**** DEFAULT community=public frequency=5 perf=5 ALL DEFAULT version=1 proto=udp rpc DEFAULT proto=udp ping DESCR features=unix, linux localhost localhost disk network localhost syslog localhost proc=inetd procs proc=sshd procs localhost smtp localhost pop3 localhost imap localhost check=tcp dns (Note, I've tried just plain dns there as well) monitor bsdisplay Any help is much appreciated. -doug----- Original Message ----- From: "Mihael Knezevic" <suppressed>To: <suppressed> Sent: Monday, September 20, 2004 3:05 AM Subject: Re: [Bigsister-general] remove client from view > hi, > > you must first remove all checks from the host and then remove the host > from every group. > > bsadmin remove host.* > bsadmin leave host '*' > > that should do the trick > > > On Mon, 20 Sep 2004 11:42:18 +0200 > Steve Caster <suppressed> wrote: > >> Hi everybody >> >> I used to monitor several client.
