There also can be an application listening behind the >chosen port, but that's unlikley. The Windows machine is running
Windows 2000. The other machine is XPSP2 with ICMP echo turned on. There's also
a Solaris box which isn't responding to UDP pings, and I even applied
a UDP ping to the big sister server itself (which is running
Debian-3.1-sarge). All failed. :(
I'm too green to know what's required
to get UDP pings to work. Is an extra module required on the Big Sister server?
Will I need to run an BSagent on the other boxes?

problems on either uxmon setting file. both are 0wned by the bigsister user
"bs", and are -rw-r--r--
I tried adjusting my uxmon-asroot and
uxmon-net files as per your example. However, when starting
/etc/init.d/bigsister as user "bs", bigsister is still just grinding to a halt
when it attempts to load uxmon-asroot. When I start bigsister as root, it starts
up, but I get the following messages for every ping check in uxmon-asroot
:-
"Agent uxmon for uxmon-net: uxmon:
WARNING: ICMP ping probably only works when running as root
Agent uxmon for uxmon-net: Wed Sep
15 14:03:02 2004: uxmon: check ping failed to start up - ignored"
yet when I look at the Big sister
homepage... ICMP pings are actually working under these conditions.
Any ideas?
My uxmon-asroot looks like
this:-
DEFAULT proto=icmp
ping
192.168.16.40
ping
192.168.16.25
ping
192.168.16.13
ping
(EOF)
All these servers are pingable with
the UNIX ping command.
