Hi, We need to monitor some 30 servers all located in remote sites. we want the monitoring server to check if these servers respond to a ping. my question: is the internal 'ping' check executed in serial (one after the other) or in parallel ? (can't test for the moment due to lack of a proper testing environment, and the description of the 'ping' check doesn't mention this.) The reason i ask is that - in big brother - we have had very slow updates on the monitoring screen because the ping check was executed one server at a time, and if a few servers where down, the ping timeout for these servers caused a big delay in the update of the monitoring screen (it took a very long time before we saw that the 'conn' table displayed a red alert for the server that was down. this was especially the case when it was our own site - the site where the monitoring server was located - that was isolated from the rest because in this case, we had to wait for the aggregated ping timeout of some 30+ servers before the monitoring server would update its 'conn' column. If these ping checks could be executed in parallel (send out the ping to all the servers at once, and wait for all the ping answers to be received), this delay could be greatly reduced. I hope I make some sense here. thx, Tom. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by BEA Weblogic Workshop FREE Java Enterprise J2EE developer tools!
