RE: [Bigsister-general] setting up bigsister on tru64 platform

Hi Russel,

thanks for your reaction.
The error that I get does indicate that it can't find the file or directory #
So the problem is not that much that /usr/local/lib/bs does not exist. I installed bs on various nodes and never had to create the bs directory manually. I do run the make install-agent as root. If you don't run it as root I can imagine that you need to create directories manually, because of the protections within the /usr/local/lib directory.

Nevertheless I tried your suggestion (you never know), but it did not resolve anything.

Hoping for more reactions.

Regarding Gerrit's message, I think you need to have the /usr/local/lib/bs
directory created ahead of time. I do it when I create the user 'bs' on my
Solaris & Linux UNIX boxen. I'd imagine Tru64 is very similar.

P.S. -- Anyway to strip HTML MIME portions of emails on the list? They're
quite annoying.

Hi there,

First of all, I am a newbie in big sister. I set it up on different
machines (mainly Sun Solaris) and wrote some scripts which I incorporated
successfully.
I am now trying to agents on tru64 (aka digital unix, or OSF1) machines,
but without any success.
Since the machines did not have perl installed I downloaded nsPerl from http://www.perl.com/CPAN/ports/index.html and installed it.
I am not sure if I did this correctly though.

When I unpack, configure bigsister, and after that run make install-agent
I get the following error:

************************************
*                                  *
* BUILD with:                      *
*
* DEST=/usr/local/lib/bs
* EXEC=/usr/local/lib/bs
* INCLUDE=/usr/local/lib/bs
* CGIPATH=/cgi
* USER=root
* WEBROOT=/bs
* PERL=/usr/bin/perl
* PERLEXT=
*
*                                  *
************************************

#
#: No such file or directory
*** Exit 1
Stop.

It seems like # is not seen as indicating a remark line anymore. I don't
know if this is because of TRU64 behavior, a crappy perl installation or
some lacking configuration.
I am quite experience in UNIX but not particularly in TRU64.

can somebody help?

thanks in advance,

Gerrit van Oostveen
