You might say Perl is its own CLR, and hence its own 'single portable 
object format'.

Having said that, I must admit .NET is a juggernaut which can't be 
stopped. That doesn't mean, though, it's of any value. More like it's 
a risk to our careers if suits continue demanding code written in 
.NET.

Looks into it and you'll see the deliberate, built-in-by-MS, 
complexity is staggering, and if anyone took a rational decision they 
would discard it the way Java is being discarded.

But then, Sun killed off Java back in January with their fake patches 
to, I believe, the typing system, so who cares?
