When we surf the web, or read almost anything these days, we may see the word support used in a variety of ways. In general, when we use it at JSW4NET Inc, support means one of the following things:

Support means aid.

As in, we aid you to do what you need to do. We support (aid) your computer network operations. This can be through implementation of a planned project, or by answering day to day questions you have about using technology. Currently because of the scale of our company, most of our support is provided on a one-to-one basis, by email, over the phone, and occasionally in person. We are committed to doing this very well.

Supported means works in an environment.

As in, Movable Type and WordPress are supported on our retail web hosting platforms for content management and blogging.

Supports means a feature is present in software.

As in Microsoft Windows Server supports Active Directory services. (Or alternatively, Microsoft supports LDAP via Active Directory services.)

If you would like to speak to us about how we can support (aid) your comany’s infrastructure needs, please contact us today.

This short article seeks to inform our clients and web site visitors about our new web site. JSW4NET Inc was founded in 1999 to develop web sites. Since that time, we have done that and more. Over the years, our web site has evolved and with each new version, I think we have improved the value the site provides to customers and visitors. (Even if only because we explain ourselves better each time.)

I am very excited about the new site which we will launch in the coming weeks, I think it continues the evolution and growth both by more accurately visually representing the informal (but professional) nature of the company, and by creating more clearly written content describing what the comapny does. For this I have very much to thank Jackie Rogers who illustrated the site and Janet Sanders who wrote the content for the site. I am grateful to them for their professionalism and patience.

This site is managed using WordPress software. The page design is based on the Prototype Theme which is a demonstration of the Hybrid Core Framework; both are by Justin Tadlock. The design uses a 16 column 960 grid, but if you look closely you will see some places where I have fudged a width for one reason or another. The typefaces used are: Goudy Bookletter 1911 made by Barry Schwartz and Junction made by Caroline Hadilaksono.

(All using proper css/xhtml coding to the extent reasonably possible.)

For many years now, the JSW4NET site has been managed with MovableType. If you are watching closely, you will see that as of the date of this post, we have begun to develop a site using WordPress. In general, when we develop any web site from now forward, it will typically be made with WordPress.

It was Ben and Mena, and the zietgiest of a young married couple publishing software, that held a lot of the initial attraction for JSW4NET. That is long gone.

It was replaced by Six Apart which was a US corporation. SixApart subsequently merged with Say Media. Apparently, all Say Media wanted was the TypePad properties. Now, there is a Japanese company that used to be named Six Apart KK that now owns MovableType. (The name of the new company is Six Apart and it is owned by Infocom, a Japanese IT company.)

So, we have moved on too. As we do, we make the following committments to our MovableType users:

Our hosting platform at KinetixHosting will continue to provide all the necessary elements to run MT.

If you want to use MT, we will perform a new clean installation of the software on your account at no charge.

KinetixHosting will attempt to answer questions about the use of Movable Type through standard support channel.

If you need any other Movable Type services, please contact us to discuss your needs.

For fun, we present the following top ten list. It is the chronologically organized list of content management systems used by JSW4NET since 1999:

Custom written mod_perl web site.

Note Pad

FrontPage

DreamWeaver

Note Pad (Yes, we returned to this briefly after the previous two messes.)

MetaDot

Radiant

Sharepoint (Only internally; but this is significant in light of Office 365.)

MovableType (… and we looked at Melody too.)

WordPress

Galileo Internet Marketing Services provides design, maintenance and hosting services for the USBSF. Galileo was our first hosting reseller at JSW4.NET in 1999, and the principals of the two firms worked together previously since 1995. Galileo focuses on long term relationships with their clients to effectively integrate existing traditional marketing and advertising into the company’s web based initiatives.
